What is ideck and where does it come from ?
ideck is produced in Brazil and contains 100% Ipe. Ipe (pronounced ee-pay) is a Hardwood, which grows in Brazil and throughout the rest of South and Central America.
Is Ipe being harvested responsibly ?
ideck material is harvested responsibly under the guidelines and techniques of sustainable yield forestry management as set forth by the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO).
Has ideck been kiln dried ?
ideck comes well air dried with a moisture content ranging between 15 and 25%.
Does ideck weather ?
Weather does not affect the structual integrity of the wood. Over time the sun will change the wood from its original color to a beautiful silver patina.
Is Ipe subject to insect damage ?
Because of the dense structure of Ipe it is not only resistant to insects, but also to decay, rot and mold.
What is the fire rating of Ipe ?
NFPA test results give Ipe an A rating and UBC a class 1 - both being the highest possible rating for a building material. Steel and concrete have the same rating.
How long will ideck last ?
Due to the properties of Ipe we offer a 25-year limited warranty against insect and decay damage to the I-Deck products.
